Holiday Entertaining Tips

Dec 18, 2016

As you enter into this holiday season as newlyweds, you may be entertaining family & friends in your first home together. This is a great time to start new traditions as well as use some of those registry gifts! Entertaining in your home is much like hosting guests at a wedding, just on a much smaller scale, yet with the same personal touches. Here are some of our top tips for entertaining over the holidays:

  1. 1. Set the scene. This is possibly your first home together so nobody is expecting a full on Martha Stewart display to be happening in your living room! Start small with twinkle lights on a small tree, garland or a wreath, or welcome guests with a cute and festive doormat.

2. Hosting a large group for dinner? Consider hand-written place cards and thoughtful placement of guests. Writing names with a metallic marker on a festive item such as an ornament or pine cone adds to the ambiance of the table setting and feels special for each guest.

3. Consider where everyone will sit. Do you have enough seating in your home for a dinner party? You may need to rent a few chairs, an extra table or linen. Also consider flatware, glasses, utensils- you’re likely stocked for 8-10 place settings normally, but may need to rent or purchase a few extra for entertaining. We also like the disposable option, like these festive colors and patterns from Susty Party. Cute and good for the environment.

4. ‘Tis the season for a signature cocktail. Just like at your cocktail hour, its a fun option to have a signature drink- either your favorite mix or something more seasonal. Again, check your barware and glassware to ensure you have enough for all of your guests. Also consider adding a little flair to each glass with a party straw or stirrer like these from Midnight Confetti. (And don’t forget a mocktail option!)

5. Be present. As we stress to our couples on their wedding day, take time to sit back and enjoy. You’ve worked hard to plan a special day for your guests (even if its a small dinner party or Christmas dinner) but you’re allowed to sip a signature cocktail and enjoy the company of friends and family. Cheers!
